It is my lifetime ambition as an Author to be as productive as Fiona McIntosh, as unique as Max Barry and as important as Kate Grenville. I may become all of these things or none of them. Time will, eventually, tell.

Here’s a list of my latest projects in Scrivener. I hope you find something that intrigues you.

the story of yazi long [ NOVEL ]

[ currently writing | chapter 1 of 9 ]

zhouzhang+home_2.jpg

Cassie Long has done the unthinkable. She has named her new born son Yazi. Yazi Long.

To Cassie, the name is perfect. The Yazi are sons of the Dragon King Lungwang. It's a strong name that will represent both sides of family - Ray's traditional Chinese heritage and her own English surname of Long.

Yazi Dragons are famous in China for their lust of the kill. They are warriors, adorning swords and weapons for centuries. It's a dangerous name and one Ray's family are horrified to see invoked in an innocent child.

While Cassie laughs off the superstition, her new family prepare themselves for the curse that they know must follow.

death valley JUNCTION [ NOVEL ]

[ IT’S A DEVELOPING IDEA ]

The man stands on the sidewalk in downtown Death Valley Junction CA, his home for 80 years. The motel he inherited from his father is on the brink of dereliction, an evacuation order hap-haphazardly stapled to the front door. He glances back towards the pool - cracked and empty. He knows he needs to fix the leak, but he hasn’t seen a plumber in town since Jim left in 1969. No-one will come out. It’s too tricky a job, they say, and not worth the gas. He wonders if he could do it himself.

The man is Death Valley Junction’s sole-survivor of the gentry era. He has watched his town slowly decay into poverty and despair. Nonetheless, Sunday is a suit and tie day. It doesn’t matter, it shouldn’t matter, that the thermometer reads 105 degrees.
